How to Get to Bistrița

We will organize a shuttle bus for participants arriving at Cluj Avram Iancu International Airport. If you need transportation from the airport to Bistrița, please let us know in advance so we can arrange the schedule accordingly!

 

Traveling to Bistrița, Romania by Plane

Traveling to Bistrița by plane offers speed and convenience, especially for international travelers.

There are three main airport options to consider:

  1. Cluj-Napoca International Airport (CLJ),
  2. Sibiu International Airport (SBZ), and
  3. Bucharest Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP).

 

  • Each airport offers different flight options and transfer possibilities to Bistrița, mainly by bus or by train.
  • In terms of availability, cost, and transfer time, Cluj-Napoca International Airport (CLJ) would be the best option to get to Bistrița, as Bucharest and Sibiu are quite far from the city. 

 

Transfer from Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) to Bistrița

 

1. By Bus

  • Frequency: Regular departures throughout the day. 
  • Tabita Company (recommended): Approx. 2-hour journey. 50 lei (10 eur)/ticket, departures at  13:30, 17:30, 22:00
  • Route: Direct route, comfortable and budget-friendly.
  • Estimated price: 50-90 RON.
  • Reservations: You can easily check schedules and book tickets on Autogari.ro.
  • Why it's a good option: Fast and affordable. It's the most convenient option if you're coming from Cluj-Napoca.

 

2. By Train

  • Journey time: Approx. 3 hours.
  • Route: Direct train connections are available, but note that delays are common in Romanian train services (more than 1 hour).
  • Estimated price: 20 RON (5 euro) - 2nd Class
  • Reservations: Book tickets through CFR Călători.
  • Extra info: The train station is far from the airport 

 

3. Shuttle Bus (Our Service)

If there are many participants arriving around the same time at Cluj-Napoca, we can provide shuttle bus transportation.

 

Transfer from Bucharest (OTP) to Bistrița

 

1. By Bus

  • Journey time: 6-8 hours.
  • Why it takes longer: Bucharest is over 400 km away, so the journey is long. However, buses are an affordable and practical way to travel.
  • Estimated price: 80-150 RON.
  • Reservations: You can check available buses and book tickets on Autogari.ro.
  • Note: Due to the distance, consider the travel time when planning your trip.

 

2. By Train

  • Journey time: 6-8 hours.
  • Why it takes longer: Multiple stops along the way and the long distance contribute to a longer travel time.
  • Estimated price: 70-100 RON depending on the train class and availability.
  • Reservations: Tickets can be booked via CFR Călători.

 

 

Transfer from Sibiu (SBZ) to Bistrița

 

1. By Bus

  • Journey time: Approx. 3-4 hours.
  • Frequency: Several departures throughout the day.
  • Estimated price: 50-70 RON.
  • Reservations: Book your tickets on Autogari.ro.
  • Why it's a good option: This is a more manageable route compared to Bucharest.

 

2. By Train - there is no direct train from Sibiu to Bistrița

 

 

Getting Around Bistrița: Local Transportation Options

Once in Bistrița, getting around the city is quite easy with various local transportation options. The best option is walking, as the city is small and very beautiful. Taxis and ride-sharing services are also readily available, offering convenient transportation at small prices.
